Allerton Trail Race

Over the weekend I participated in the Allerton Trail Race, which is a 5.5 mile run through one of the 7 Wonders of Illinois.  The route was quite a bit different from two years ago when I last participated due to extensive flooding of the trail system along the river.  Consequently, there were even more up and downs as we constantly detoured.  Overall it was a fun, wet, muddy and challenging course on a lovely fall day.

Cooper's First 5K

This morning Julie and I planned on running the KSA 5K on the Illinois campus. Since the race was small and stroller friendly we planned to push the kids in the jogger, but as we started both kids wanted to "run". Anna made it a couple hundred yards before climbing back in the stroller. Cooper, however, kept going. In fact, he insisted on running/walking the entire 5K. Even though he wasn't registered the race organizers were nice enough to give him a medal for being the youngest finisher (he wasn't last either). Good fun on a Saturday morning.

Freedom 5K

Congratulations to Julie for placing 3rd in her age group at the Freedom 5K over the weekend despite the pouring rain.  She reluctantly told me that finishing in the top three in a competitive race had always been one of her fitness goals.  Cross that off your list.
